After the last frost, sow 2-3 seeds per hole outside, preferably towards the north end of the garden in a spot that receives lots of sun and is protected from strong winds. These sunflowers will grow in most soils, but rich, well-drained, loamy soil is best. Regular and deep watering at the base of the plant, along with fertilization as needed, will ensure the best results. Due to their exceptional height and large heads, up to 1 foot wide, Mammoth Sunflowers may require staking or support as they grow.
